A man named Uwakwe has been expelled from the Umuela Village Ibagwa-aka community in Enugu State, Nigeria, after it was discovered that he was responsible for the deaths of his brother’s children. According to a village source, whenever a death occurred in Uwakwe’s family, he would volunteer to visit a diviner to determine the cause. He would then return and tell the villagers that his late uncle was responsible for the deaths. The latest death, which occurred during the Christmas celebration, prompted the village youths to seek out the truth themselves.
After visiting several locations and receiving the same information, they concluded that Uwakwe was responsible for the deaths in the family and decided to banish him from the community. A Facebook user named Bright King also claimed that Uwakwe had killed five of his brothers’ children.
The villagers, who were reportedly angry and mourning, marched to Uwakwe’s home on Tuesday, carrying palm fronds and singing and chanting songs. A family member who wished to remain anonymous said that Uwakwe had always told them not to worry whenever a death occurred in the family and that he would handle it, but it was only after the latest death that the youth decided to take matters into their own hands and seek out the truth. When they discovered that Uwakwe was responsible for the deaths, they decided to banish him from the community. It is unclear what action, if any, has been taken against Uwakwe following his banishment.
